Houses painted before 1971 may have paint that contains high levels of lead.
Lead can be dangerous for men, women and children, but especially pregnant women and young children
If you are renovating or repainting an old home with flaking paint, it is important to treat the lead paint properly
Modern household paints contain less than .1% lead.
Lead in paint is only a danger once it is disturbed. Consider repainting the substrate without disturbing the original surface.
If the painted surfaces need major sanding and preparation, it is often cheaper to simply replace them.
